FOUNDER & TREASURER

David (he/him) has served as director and treasurer of Red Ink Community Library since its founding in 2021. During that time, he has also filled a number of roles, including programming director, social media coordinator, community liaison, sanitation engineer, technology guru and bouncer. If there is something that has happened at Red Ink, David has likely been a part of it.

Throughout the tremendous highs and occasional lows of Red Ink's history up to this point, David remains motivated by the founding principles of the library: to foster and encourage an educated, empowered, and energetic working class in Rhode Island.

PRESIDENT

Jacob (he/they) is a recent graduate of RISD, with a Master of Architecture degree. Jacob’s focus is on decolonization and understanding of material culture which he continues to study through his professional practice and writing. He is an AICAD fellow and an assistant professor in the New School at Parsons School of Constructed Environments in New York City.

With his focus in architecture, Jacob understands just how important third spaces are. With his presence on the board, Jacob hopes to empower Red Ink’s mission as a space of gathering, learning, and organizing in our community.

VICE PRESIDENT

Megan (she/her) is a born-and-raised Rhode Islander. Growing up with a disabled brother meant seeing firsthand how many people and how much effort it takes to make change and effectively advocate for marginalized communities. In her adulthood, Megan's work experience helped her see how many of her neighbors were being failed by the gaps in the current US healthcare system, especially the disabled and undocumented. These experiences ultimately led to her decision to go to law school. She plans to complete her Juris Doctorate in 2024 and take the bar exam. As a member of the Independent Socialist Group (CWI/CIT), Megan hopes to work to strengthen current community bonds, make new ones, and prepare for a brighter future both here and abroad.

SECRETARY & COMMUNICATIONS

Amy (she/her) is a graduate of the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture where she received her B. Arch. She currently works as a designer in New York City and splits her time between there and Providence. Her main interests are on the relationship between architecture and the city. She believes that architecture is the physical manifestation of the systems and hierarchies within our society and she strives to understand how the role of design can begin to work against institutions of oppression.

Amy began organizing in Rhode Island in 2022 and has found it both an exciting and challenging place to work. As part of the Red Ink board, Amy will seek to make the space a more inclusive and accessible environment, and will work to reach new audiences while continuing to serve its core constituency.

ELECTED BOARD MEMBER

Mackenzie (he/him) lives in Providence, Rhode Island. He is a musician and artist specializing in expression, improvisation and abstract forms with an emphasis on collaboration. Mackenzie enjoys organizing shows with/for local and touring acts and creatives in Providence, Worcester, New Haven and Boston area. His goals are to bring people together to bond over creative endeavors and experiences and to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere when holding events. Mackenzie is grateful to be a part of a very healthy community of creatives and hopes to continue working to serve and document the local scene.

ELECTED BOARD MEMBER

Tiara (she/her) is a formerly low-income Black, queer, educator and activist. In 2020, she ran and won her state senate race, unseating a 30 year incumbent to become the state's first openly queer Black elected state legislator. As a directly impacted person, she understands that we need bold, visionary leaders to center real people and stories in every piece of legislation.

In her time in office, she has been a champion for LGBTQ+ rights, working families, housing and tenant rights, and expanding abortion access in Rhode Island. Since 2021, she has passed bills that have expanded abortion access to Medicaid recipients and state employees, a process to seal eviction records, critical childhood lead safety bills, and made Juneteenth a paid state holiday.

She is the youngest Rhode Island State Senator and is the Senate Commerce Committee Secretary and a member of the Housing and Municipal Committee and the Education Committee.

She is a Board Member of Women’s Health and Education Fund (WHEF), Rhode Island's only abortion fund, and Time To Advocate, a civic engagement organization for marginalized communities.
